Saheb Architecture in the Spotlight: Reviving a Piece of Brooklyn's History

Saheb Architecture is featured in an article by the American Institute of Economic research that highlights our role in transforming the historic Union Temple of Brooklyn. Union Temple is a remarkable eleven-story building with a rich history. Originally intended as a grand sanctuary, it evolved into a community center for a growing immigrant community in 1929. Fast forward to 2023, the building has become a hub for two preschools, weddings, fitness centers, and a variety of events that resonate with the eclectic spirit of Brooklyn.

The Union Temple has seen a dynamic evolution. However, our journey hasn't been without challenges. Across New York, regulations have slowly stated piling up- zoning, rent control, landmarking and more. It has resulted in numerous aging buildings to be underutilized and struggling to function, including Union Temple. Navigating city regulations, zoning issues, and petitioning for cultural use permits have been crucial steps in our commitment to revitalizing this prime gathering space.

As Architect Ritu Saheb notes, "Zoning regulations lag behind the actual use of our buildings, making many underutilized and uneconomical."

Despite hurdles, our determination remains strong. Join us in celebrating the transformation of this historic piece of Brooklyn's history. Saheb Architecture continues to shape the urban landscape, bringing communities together and preserving the essence of our cities.
